May 31, 2005 6:12 pm Wanna start rock(esque) band in Mumbai
Suhaas Ahuja
Looking for a lead guitarist, bassist & drummer to start a band, here in Mumbai. I play rhythm guitar & sing. Have played in several bands since high school & have loved my rock n' roll days - I look forward to returning to them. I have some original songs of my own (not counting the ones I'm not ecstatic about).

What kind? I personally am not a virtuoso. I believe in having fewer chords & fewer notes, but in escalating the feeling & passion behind each note. Wanna make some good music. And while I have no problems playing covers & personally would like to cover more obscure songs by well-known artists rather than the standard, popular ones, why don't we make some original music? And why don't we trash every original effort of ours that isn't excellent? Let's make some - and only - great music. While I love the idea of musicians as artists expressing themselves, I'd like it if what we were expressing was music that made people dance in spite of themselves. Music that moves your feet - rendering you helpless. Drummers, I like the drum n' bass rhythms, that are a bit challenging for you, but rewarding when it comes to moving people's feet. Breakbeats are fantastic too - erratic rhythms, but sticking to the beat - like life itself.

See, a band like Coldplay keeps the music simple, but expresses its emotions with complete genuineness & no shame or fear. That's what I like about them. I think Blur is a fantastic band, cos they're simple, they're emotional, they're profound while also being popular. I'd like to make some contemporary songs, songs that concern modern India. I like love songs, cos you can write as many love songs as there are facets to love.

While I personally am more comfortable in English, I also want to reach the people & work in Hindi. Rather than go for sincerity & earnestness, I'd like to instill a subtle & profound humour in our music & lyrics. I'm also an honourable person & personally dislike cheap humour & antics. I want our music to be interesting, while never over-serious. I want it to be catchy but not banal. I think with a little diligence we can achieve this. Strong, catchy songs, packed with the wisdom that our audiences deserve but do not receive.

We can work out the logistics later - let's see if we can get a group together first. Look forward to any replies; send me a private message at my ryze mailbox.
